8 Ways to Make Their First Week Back at Primary School Fun!

The school holidays aren’t over yet, but there’s no harm in getting a head start on some back to school preparations. Whether your little one is looking forward to going back to school or they’re feeling a little apprehensive, our eight tips are sure to sprinkle a little bit of fun into that first school week.

Make a Special Back-To-School Breakfast


We all know the importance of a good breakfast to start the day off right, so why not take it to another level and make their back to school breakfast fun! You don’t have to spend a lot of time or effort to do so either. With just a few simple tricks, you can put a smile on your little ones face and set them up for a great day try:

• Making a smiley face out of fruit
• Adding sprinkles to their cereal or toast
• Using a (low sugar) flavoured milk in their cereal instead of plain
• Serving them on a new fun plate or bowl
• Letting them make their own breakfast with supervision

Give Them Something to Look Forward to


For some little ones school can be an anxiety inducing experience, especially when moving to a new class. A helpful way to ease this anxiety can be to give them something fun to look forward to each school day. Something as simple as stopping by the park on the way home or choosing a sweet treat from the shop can be enough!

Ask Them to Invite a Friend Over


Encourage your little ones to make new friends and strengthen the friendships they already have by letting them invite friends over. Even if you don’t have the time in the school week, organise an appropriate date with their friends guardian. Just knowing that new friends are welcome will make their first week back more exciting and encourage new friendships.

Pop a Surprise in Their Lunchbox


School lunches can be boring, and sometimes even scary for little ones who are making the transition to big school! Make their lunch that little bit more fun by popping a surprise in their lunch box. A note from mum or dad, a sweet treat or even a little trinket is a sure way to put a smile on their face and offer some comfort as they get used to new changes.

Celebrate With After School Dinner Out


Make mid-week dinner more exciting and wrangle up the family for a celebratory meal out. Let your little one choose the restaurant and who they want to invite (grandparents, friends etc.).Be sure to let them know that a new teacher, class and classmates are something to celebrate!

Go Stationary Shopping Together


Help them pick out a fresh new set of pencils, a cool pencil case and a few new notebooks! there’s no better way to inspire them to practice their handwriting skills or get them excited to show all their friends their new pencil case!

Don’t Make it All About School


School is only six hours a day, but the mad back to school rush can have both kids and parents feel like their lives revolve around it. If your little one is nervous about moving up a class, remind them that school is only a part of their day by scheduling in some family fun after school and establishing a relaxing wind-down routine after a busy day!

There’s something about tradition that can help us ground us in the midst of a change. Whether we’re marking a new year of life or celebrating a milestone, traditions can offer comfort when life feels like it’s moving too fast.
