Starting Nursery

If you’re anxious about your little one starting nursery this year’s half year nursery intake, then getting them kitted out with the right uniform will help to prepare them and you for the big day. There will always be debates around nursery school uniforms, how strict they really should be, or if nurseries should even have them at all, but there are definitely pros when it comes to nursery uniforms. First of all you won’t have to worry about them messing up their actual clothes with paint, play dough and strawberry yoghurt on a daily basis, and there is definitely less hassle when it comes to planning for the day because you already know exactly what they’ll be wearing. So if you have chosen a nursery that requires your child to wear a nursery uniform here is our guide to starting them off right.

We offer next day delivery on all our nursery uniform, so if they do greet you at home time with a stubborn stain on their last decent looking polo shirt or they've somehow managed to bring home someone else’s cardigan... again then we have you covered. When it does come to nursery uniform we know that throughout the day it’ll go through a lot. In just one day it will need to withstand the sandpit, the water tray, painting and drawing all while allowing your child to be their active self, so our nursery uniform is tough, it’s made to last and it’s comfortable. The nursery school uniform check-list will usually involve a good quality nursery jumper or sweatshirt, (especially for these colder months), a polo shirt or plain t shirt, junior trousers or a junior skirt, however with the cold weather and the active day they’ll face it’s probably best dressing both girls and boys in trousers. You may also need a school swimming costume or trunks, (depending if your nursery offers swimming lessons) and last but not least a nursery school bag.

It’s always a good idea to pack a basic waterproof jacket or cagoule in their bag as sometimes, even in winter they will be outside or in a wet environment throughout the day. We sell a waterproof jacket and waterproof trousers that fold away into a convenient and small bag. Little girls will love our comfortable and stylish cardigans, and a nursery school jumper is a basic essential, however your child may prefer a school fleece if this is within your nurseries dress code. Giving your little one the option will help them to feel more in control of a new situation too. Sometimes the nursery may request you bring them in jogging bottoms or tracksuit bottoms if they’ll be doing something active or particularly messy, so it’s always a good idea to have some clean and ready to go. A painting smock is also a nursery essential, some nurseries will provide these however it's best to have one to hand.

Finally, beginning to teach them how to button up their cardigan, or zip up their fleece will be helpful, although it doesn't matter if they haven’t mastered this before they start, as they are simply being introduced to the idea of becoming more independent. The first day of nursery is always scary for both parent and child, but a great tip for reducing some of this fear is helping them to try on their first nursery uniform at home! It’ll help both you and your child to ease into the new routine and get you both exited for the big day.
